A LINE Official Account (often shortened to LINE OA) is a business account inside the LINE messaging app. Once a customer adds it as a friend, the business can broadcast messages, chat one to one, set up automatic replies and a rich menu, and issue coupons and reward cards. LY Corporation runs the service. It was formed on 1 October 2023, when Z Holdings, LINE Corporation, Yahoo Japan and other group companies were reorganised. In Taiwan and Thailand, LINE's terms also name LINE Plus Corporation and its affiliates as providers, including LINE Taiwan Limited (台灣連線股份有限公司), which sells accounts in Taiwan. Elsewhere, LY Corporation provides the service itself.
LINE@ still comes up in searches. It was LINE's service for small businesses and shops, and in April 2019 it was merged with the original corporate official account into a single platform. Every account opened today is a LINE Official Account.

LINE matters because of where its users are. LY Corporation reports 193 million monthly active users worldwide at 31 March 2026, and most of them are in four markets:
| Market | Monthly active users | As of |
|---|---|---|
| Japan | 100 million | 31 March 2026 |
| Thailand | 54 million | 30 June 2026 |
| Taiwan | 22 million | 30 June 2026 |
| 印尼 | 5 million | 30 June 2026 |
Japan, Taiwan and Thailand alone account for about 91% of LINE's users (176 million of 193 million at 31 March 2026). LY Corporation also says LINE is used by over 90% of Taiwan's population and over 80% of Thailand's. For a business selling into these markets, that reach is the reason to open an account.
How an official account differs from a personal LINE account:
| 特色 | Personal LINE account | LINE公眾號 |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Chat with friends and family | Talk to customers as a business |
| 成本 | 免費 | Free to open; broadcasts priced by plan |
| 廣播節目 | Not available | To all friends or selected groups |
| Team access | One user | Several colleagues with different roles |
| Auto-responses and rich menu | 不 | 是的 |
| Coupons and reward cards | 不 | 是的 |
| Insights | 不 | Friends, messages and campaign data |
LINE publishes separate plans for Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and "Other regions". Taiwan's terms apply to customers LINE judges to be Taiwan residents, and the Other regions terms apply to customers outside Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. Since 1 April 2022, every account has had to register the operator's country or region: where a company or sole proprietor is located, or where an individual lives.

| Pricing zone | Currency | Free plan | Verified accounts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Japan | Japanese yen | 200 messages a month | Available |
| Taiwan | New Taiwan dollars | 200 messages a month | Available |
| Thailand | Thai baht | 300 messages a month | Available |
| Other regions | US dollars | 500 messages a month | Not available |
A few places have extra restrictions:
Every market uses the same model: a monthly plan includes a number of messages, and some plans let you buy more. Messages are counted per recipient, so one broadcast to 500 friends uses 500 messages. The prices below are LINE's official ones as of September 2026.

| Plan | Monthly fee | Messages included |
|---|---|---|
| Communication | ¥0 | 200 |
| 光 | ¥5,000 | 5,000 |
| 標準 | ¥15,000 | 30,000 |
Only Standard can buy extra messages. Until 30 September 2026 they are priced on a sliding scale from ¥3.0 down to ¥1.1 each. From 1 October 2026 they cost ¥3 each for up to 200,000 a month and ¥2.5 each above that. The change applies to Japan only.
| Plan | Until 31 October 2026 | From 1 November 2026 | Messages included |
|---|---|---|---|
| 輕用量 (Free) | NT$0 | NT$0 | 200 |
| 中用量 (Light) | NT$800 | NT$1,000 | 3,000 |
| 高用量 (Standard) | NT$1,200 | NT$1,400 | 6,000 |
Only 高用量 can buy extra messages. From 1 November 2026 they cost NT$0.2 each for the first 50,000 and NT$0.15 each from the 50,001st. LINE Taiwan also says the two paid plans get its OA PLUS operations platform free from 1 November, including automatic tagging and the 開店幫手 (store helper) module.
| Plan | Monthly fee | Messages included |
|---|---|---|
| 免費 | ฿0 | 300 |
| 基礎 | ฿1,280 | 15,000 |
| Pro | ฿1,780 | 35,000 |
Basic and Pro can send extra messages at ฿0.10 and ฿0.06 each. Pro also includes LINE's MyCustomer CRM.
| Plan | Monthly fee | Messages included |
|---|---|---|
| Communication | 免費 | 500 |
| 光 | US$50 | 10,000 |
| 標準 | US$150 | 40,000 |
This table applies outside Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. LINE does not name Hong Kong, but on its published rules Hong Kong would fall here. Only Standard can buy extra messages, at US$0.05 each. Light and Standard are not sold in the EU, Indonesia, Singapore or the United States.
In practice, an account that mainly answers customer questions in the Manager can often stay on the free plan. Regular broadcasts, or a connected platform that sends many Push messages, are what move an account onto a paid plan.
Every account is created with a Business ID, LY Corporation's shared login for its business tools. You can log in with a LINE account or register with an email address, and one Business ID can create up to 100 official accounts, verified or not.

The same flow works in the LINE Official Account app for iOS and Android: log in or sign up, then create the account. The app is handy for answering chats and checking insights on the go. Taiwan's help centre recommends Android 10, iOS 16 or iPadOS 14 and later for the app, and the latest Chrome for the web Manager.
A verified account has passed LINE's review of the business behind it. Verified accounts appear in LINE's in-app search; unverified accounts can be used by anyone but do not. LINE currently issues verified accounts only in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.

| Market | Badges since 1 April 2026 | How verification works |
|---|---|---|
| Japan | Green check mark for verified accounts; the unverified badge and the "premium account" label were dropped | Free review of 5 to 10 business days; accounts named after an individual cannot be verified |
| Taiwan | Blue shield (verified) and green shield (enterprise); no shield for general accounts | Buy a Premium ID, then pass a document review; the green shield is by LINE invitation and also needs a Premium ID and LINE's review |
| Thailand | Blue shield (verified) and green shield (premium); grey shield removed | Blue shield after LINE's review; users see a fraud warning before adding an unverified account |
| Other regions | No verification | Accounts stay unverified and are not listed in LINE search |
Applicants must be government-approved companies, shops or organisations. Retail, beauty and medical merchants who apply through one of LINE's industry partners can get a five-working-day fast-track review when their documents are in order. In Japan, the review takes 5 to 10 business days and costs nothing.
The main tools in LINE Official Account Manager:
| 特色 | What it does | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| 廣播節目 | Send one message to all friends or a filtered group | Counted toward your quota; cannot be edited or deleted once sent |
| Targeted broadcasts and audiences | Send to friends by attributes or to a saved audience | Target reach of at least 100 people; an audience needs 50 or more |
| Rich menu | A large menu pinned below the chat, linking to pages, coupons and more | Can open automatically or stay collapsed until tapped |
| Rich and card-based messages | Images, text and links in one message, or a carousel of cards | Up to nine cards per bubble |
| Rich video messages | Video that plays automatically in the chat | Users cannot save or forward them |
| Auto-responses and greeting message | Keyword replies and a welcome message for new friends | Not counted toward your quota |
| AI chatbot (beta) | Picks the best answer from your own Q&A list | Japan: replying to users needs Chat Pro; since 12 November 2025 other accounts are gradually getting Q&A setup and testing (some industries excluded). Taiwan: needs 聊天進階方案 |
| Chat | One-to-one and group chats with customers | History kept six months free, up to five years with Chat Pro |
| Coupons and reward cards | Coupons (including lotteries) and digital point cards | Customers collect points by scanning your QR code |
| Insights | Friends added or blocked, messages, coupons and reward cards | Shown in the Manager |
Admins can add colleagues with narrower roles. Taiwan's Manager, for example, has an operator role that cannot send broadcasts and another that cannot see any data, which suits customer service staff. Operators cannot add administrators.

| Date | Market | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 1 April 2026 | Japan, Taiwan, Thailand | New badges: green check mark in Japan; grey shield removed in Taiwan and Thailand |
| 30 April and 30 June 2026 | Taiwan, Thailand | Two-factor authentication becomes compulsory for Business ID logins made with an email address; personal LINE account logins are exempt |
| 16 September 2026 | Japan | New Posts (投稿) feature for verified accounts; the option to post to LINE VOOM is removed |
| 28 September 2026 | Thailand | LINE VOOM ends; official accounts can download past posts from 1 October to 31 December 2026 |
| 30 September 2026 | Japan, Taiwan | LINE VOOM ends (at 10:00 local time in Taiwan) |
| 1 October 2026 | Japan | New extra-message prices |
| 21 October 2026 | Japan, Taiwan | Posts open to all Japanese accounts; Taiwan's business profile is redesigned |
| End of October 2026 | Messaging API (corporate users) | The old Mark as read API stops taking new applications; existing users can keep using it |
| 1 November 2026 | Taiwan | Higher monthly fees for the two paid plans |
| 1 December 2026 | Japan | New Premium ID price |
In Taiwan, LINE lists VOOM posts among the items that do not count toward message fees, which made them a free way to reach followers. That ends in late September 2026 in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, the last markets where LINE VOOM runs: it closed in most other markets in September 2023, and LINE has also announced its end in Hong Kong and Indonesia. In Taiwan, LINE's backup tool does not cover official accounts: posts made through them cannot be backed up or downloaded. In Thailand, posted data will be deleted, but official accounts can download the images and videos of past posts from LINE VOOM Studio between 1 October and 31 December 2026; after that the data cannot be recovered. Elsewhere, save the images and text of any posts you want to keep before the deadline. LINE Thailand's notice calls 28 September a Wednesday, but 28 September 2026 is a Monday, so plan for the earlier date. In Japan, a new Posts feature on the LINE Home tab and the business profile replaces VOOM.
The Messaging API connects a LINE Official Account to your own server or to a third-party platform. When a customer messages the account, LINE sends a webhook event to the platform, which replies through the LINE Platform. Points to know before you connect:
imBee's omnichannel inbox, for example, brings a LINE Official Account together with WhatsApp, WeChat, Instagram and other channels in one workspace, assigns conversations by rule and keeps the full history. For more on running LINE and WeChat for business, see imBee's WeChat and LINE for business page and our complete guide to WeChat. A Traditional Chinese version of this guide is also available: LINE 官方帳號完整指南.

Is a LINE Official Account free?
Yes. Opening one is free in every market, and each has a free plan: 200 messages a month in Japan and Taiwan, 300 in Thailand and 500 in other regions. Chat, auto-responses and the greeting message do not count toward that limit, so you only need a paid plan to send more broadcasts or Messaging API push messages than the free quota allows.
How much does a LINE Official Account cost?
It depends on your market. In Japan the paid plans are ¥5,000 and ¥15,000 a month before tax. In Taiwan they are NT$800 and NT$1,200, rising to NT$1,000 and NT$1,400 on 1 November 2026. In Thailand they are ฿1,280 and ฿1,780 before VAT, and in other regions US$50 and US$150.
Can a business in Hong Kong open a LINE Official Account?
Very likely, on LINE's published rules, although LINE's plan and terms pages do not name Hong Kong. Its Other regions terms cover customers outside Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, and the EU is the only place LINE lists as unavailable. On that reading, a Hong Kong account would use the US dollar plans, could not be verified and would not appear in LINE's in-app search, so customers would add it through a QR code, its ID or a link.
How do I get a verified badge on LINE?
Only businesses in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand can apply. In Taiwan you first buy a Premium ID and then submit documents for review, and a verified account shows a blue shield. In Japan the review is free and takes 5 to 10 business days, and verified accounts show a green check mark.
Do replies to customers count toward my message limit?
Not when you reply in the Manager's chat, through auto-responses, or through the Messaging API with a reply token used within one minute. If a connected platform replies after the token has expired, for example when an agent answers later, it has to send a Push message, and that counts.
What happened to LINE@?
LINE@ was merged with the original LINE Official Account in April 2019. Every account opened today is a LINE Official Account.
Is LINE VOOM still available for businesses?
In Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, only until late September 2026: LINE VOOM ends on 30 September 2026 in Japan and Taiwan and, according to LINE Thailand's notice, on 28 September 2026 in Thailand. It closed in most other markets in September 2023, and LINE has also announced its end in Hong Kong and Indonesia. In Taiwan, posts made through official accounts cannot be backed up or downloaded; in Thailand, official accounts can download past posts from LINE VOOM Studio between 1 October and 31 December 2026. In Japan, a new Posts feature replaces VOOM.
Can I manage LINE and WhatsApp in one inbox?
Yes, through the Messaging API. Once the account is connected to a platform such as imBee, LINE conversations arrive in the same inbox as WhatsApp, WeChat and other channels, and colleagues reply from one place. Replies sent after the one-minute reply window go out as Push messages and count toward your quota.
